Welcome!!
The New York Basket Brigade is built on a simple notion: one small act of generosity on the part of one caring person can transform the lives of hundreds. It takes only one light to dispel the darkness, and even just one basket or a few, to bring hope! A Basket Brigade takes place when one individual prepares one basket to personally deliver to a needy family or individual.
The New York Basket Brigade is associated with the International Basket Brigade, providing baskets of food and household items for an estimated 2 million people annually in countries all over the world through local grass roots efforts. Throughout the years International Basket Brigade volunteers deliver food, clothing, and hope to those who need it most. We would be honored to have you become a part of this truly wonderful event in your local community.
What’s in a Basket?
Each basket costs about $45 and feeds a family of four for Thanksgiving. Typical contents include the following:
Turkey, Apples, Potatoes, Yams, Juice Boxes, Stuffing, Green Beans, Corn, Soup, Hot Cocoa, Tangerines, Brownie Mix, Cranberry Sauce, Gravy, Pie, Newman’s Own Organics cookies and Hershey Kisses
Volunteers purchase the groceries at local supermarkets (Costco and A&P) on the Saturday before Thanksgiving , and deliver them to the staging areas for assembly.
On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, volunteers show up at the staging area, assemble the baskets, and deliver them directly to the families in need identified by our not-for-profit partners.
It is a lot of fun and very rewarding, so come on out and help us for a very worthwhile cause!
